Meet a new person involved with Albuquerque's neighborhood organizations each week. Today:
David Vargas, Sunstar Neighborhood Association
The neighborhood is bounded roughly by Rio Bravo Boulevard to the north, Del Rio Road to the east, Coors Boulevard to the west and one-half mile south on Coors.
What is the best-kept secret of your neighborhood?
There are bigger homes. Most of us have between 2 acres and an acre-and-a-half. There is very little traffic, quiet neighborhoods, very little crime and friendly neighbors.
What's one thing you would change?
All this development that is going around. When I moved here nearly 17 years ago, it was considered semirural. These developments are probably needed. It means more traffic.
What's the biggest change you've seen in your neighborhood?
The development that's going on.
What advice would you give to people trying to improve or rejuvenate their neighborhoods?
Be a cohesive group and work together. There's a lot of problems you can overcome if you work together as a group.
