— An endangered New Mexico radio telescope has received an infusion of money and international support but not enough to eliminate the threat that the Very Long Baseline Array will be closed because of a lack of funding.

Officials with the Max-Planck Institute in Germany announced on Friday they would contribute nearly $300,000 to upgrade the telescope near Socorro.

The National Science Foundation said last year it would close the telescope unless an alternative source of its $3 million operating cost was found.
