SANTA FE A Santa Fe-based foundation is contributing $1 million to help pay for exhibits at the New Mexico History Museum being built in Santa Fe.
The money comes from the Messengers of Healing Winds Foundation, whose founder and president, Andrea Waitt Carlton, is a history buff. The gift was announced last week.
The foundation supports environmental work, animal dignity, education, fine arts and social-service projects in New Mexico, northwestern Iowa, South Dakota and southern Florida.
The gift is the largest ever made by the foundation, which has assets of nearly $58 million.
The 95,000-square-foot museum is slated to open in 2009 behind the Palace of the Governors.
